It was a great afternoon of fun and volunteering work for Minemax at Zambrero’s Meal Packing Day. On Friday 21 October 2016, Zambrero hosted another meal-packaging event in Perth, together with their partners Stop Hunger Now, to create nutritious meal packs for distribution to people in need in developing countries.
This year’s event was the second annual event hosted by quick-service Mexican food chain Zambrero in Perth and this year a total of 116,500 meals were prepared and packed, almost double the number achieved in 2015!
The event was held over two three-hour sessions, where around 100 volunteers, including seven Minemax staff, came together to work in teams funnelling ingredients such as rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and vitamins into small meal packages, led by specially trained Zambrero staff members.
Minemax has been on a mission to support the broader community for over 20 years and Minemax employees are passionate about local volunteering activities.
“Last year our team had so much fun taking part in this worthwhile event that I just had to get us to volunteer again this year – and we will be there again next year!” explains Minemax Office Manager Jan Scott.
“We all enjoy being able to give back to the community and we love the atmosphere of the event. The music is playing loud for motivation and I just can’t stop myself from dancing the whole time.” adds Jan.
Zambrero and Stop Hunger Now share the same vision of a world without hunger and together they created the Plate4plate program, where for every burrito or bowl purchased at Zambrero, a meal is donated and distributed to someone in need in the developing world through Stop Hunger Now. From 2015, Zambrero extended their activities to support people doing it tough in Australia. For every retail product sold, Zambrero donates a meal to an underprivileged Australian community via Foodbank.
